Sea Anemone Project
This project is not completely done it has gone through one kiln but it has not been glaze-fired yet because it is midfire. I took inspiration from my sea anemone project last year and the ones that I saw at the Monterey Bay Aquarium gift store. I tried to make a different type of animal resembling coral while also remaining quite abstract. I chose a variety of glazes so once it is fired there will be a variety of blues and teals that will blend and drip together. I cannot wait for this project to be finished!
Sardine and Tin Project
This project was inspired by my love for sardines and the sardine tin that I made last year. I also made this tin roughly based on my favorite tin of sardines by the brand Bella. This piece was made from low-fire white clay with a lot of underglaze detail and a clear gloss covering it all. Not pictured is a little sardine in the tin that I didn't like so much so I think I will remake it because the finish of the opalescent glaze made it more opaque which was not what I was looking for.
Seastar Dish Project
I am really excited about this project because it is the farthest something thatI have thrown has gotten. I have lost so many of my thrown pieces when trimming, so I am very happy about this project. This piece is made from 612 clay so it is not finished yet because it is midfire. I added a seastar at the bottom to go with my sea theme and I used monsoon sea jungle glaze which no one has used yet so I am excited to see the finish of it.
Kitchen Projects
Although these are different pieces they are part of a singular project for my house. I went into this shop downtown and it had the cutest ceramic soap dish and salt jar and I told my mom I could make them for her. These pieces are made out of 612 and are glazed with cotton tail, a nice and soft color. I am excited for these to go through a second kiln, I also included the references for these projects.
Fig Dish Project
This was a really simple easy project I did based on something that I saw on Pinterest and my love for figs. The dish is made from low fire white and has gloss glazes over top.
Sea Urchin Project
This project has been bisque-fired but not glaze-fired yet. For this project O was inspired by sea life and sea urchin ceramics I have seen at the Monterey Bay aquarium gift shop. Also, I have made my sea anemone projects in the past and given them to my mom and I thought that a sea urchin would be a nice addition to the collection I have made her. I can't wait to see how the glaze on the urchin turns out after it goes through the mid-fire kiln!
Clam Project
I loved this project and it was much fun to make. The clay body is low-fire white and I used a variety of glazes such as rose opalescent and teal gloss to create this finish. I was inspired by a sea shell jewelry dish I saw on Pinterest and wanted to make it for a friend. I am actually very happy with the way this project looks in the end except that I would have glazed the inside of the shell a paler color if I could do it again.
Monster Project
I am quite happy with the way my project came out, and I am very happy that it did not explode in the kiln like my last monster project. I tried to keep my project close to what the 3rd grader drew but embellished it slightly. I kept the orange color but added more shades for dimension, I expanded the body length and shape and I made the head slightly bigger. If I had more time I would try to refine the shapes of the spikes more, and make the head more detailed. I am still happy with the final product though.
