Handle work/Set of four
I combined these projects to create my set of four candle holders inspired by a vintage candle holder design for the handle. These were made for my mom and we will use them often.
Master Art piece
I made this sea anemone/creature based on Ernest Haeckel's work and also took inspo from the Monterey Bay aquarium. My mom really liked these sea creature pieces but they were $70 dollars and so I told her I would make her one instead! This project is made out of 612 and a variety of glazes including seaweed glaze that I injected inside the folds. I am really happy with this piece, my mom loves it and it is probably my favorite thing I have made!
Mask
This was my take on the "mask" project- I wanted to make something that I would actually use and that I thought was cool, so I took inspo from the plants at my house that kinda looked like they could be a mask (with little eye and mouth holes). I made this cool monstera leaf. I let it dry over two classes and added awesome groves, I also dried it with a bunch of sponges so it would dry in a particular shape that would look like a real leaf. Unfortunately, this piece did shatter which was really disappointing, hopefully, I can remake this in the future!
Spirit Animal
For this project I again wanted to make something that I would actually use, so instead of making a jellyfish sculpture -which would also be very hard- I just decided to carve them into a plate instead. I made the plate out of low fire and let it dry then painted this teal underglaze on it then carved out my spirit animal- moon jellies! I like thgis pice but unfortunetly it wasnt able to be clear glazed- but since I will be taking the class again next year I can get it glazed.
Platter
For my platter project, I thought back to a plate that I loved that I saw at Anthropologie it had lemons on it and a blue trim. So I decided I wanted to make a platter for a loaf of lemon bread inspired by that design. I made a simple platter shape and made small attachments on it -lemons, strawberries, caterpillars, flowers- and then I also made a small dish to go along with it. I really love how this project turned out especially how it looks with the lemon bread on it! definitely one of my favorite things I've made all year!
Current Artist/inspo
This is my piece inspired by a current artist! (This piece has been finished with the same glaze as the photo but I don't have a photo of it finished). I follow this one ceramicist on Tik toc and she started making these little larn bowl animals where the yarn feeds out their mouths. Since my aunt recently took up knitting I thought this was perfect. I added some eye and whisker attachments and glazed the piece accordingly. I really liked the finished product and my aunt liked it too even though the glaze dripped a bit!
